Panic in Babylon

One of the most important figures in the history of reggae music is Lee “Scratch” Perry. As a songwriter, a performer and especially a producer, Perry has been at the forefront of reggae music since the late 50’s ska movement. Practically the inventor of both dubs reggae (he produced one of the earliest all-dub albums, Blackboard Jungle, in 1974) and the “scratch” turntable effect used by DJ’s (his production of Charlie Ace’s “Cow Theory Skank” in 1973 became the first recording to use the “scratch” effect), Perry’s studio innovations have influenced not only reggae but also rock, punk, pop and dance music. Yet, at 70 years old, Perry, with his new album “Panic In Babylon” (Narnack) to be released in August 2006, proves to be more relevant than ever.

How about listening to a track from his latest album (on the right)

Lewis Hamilton again

My suggestion is that the Black boys achievement programme book seats at next months silverstone grand prix and see an example of achievement minus all the excuse for why it is not possible to suceed.

The Hertfordshire speed king!
May he continue to inspire us all for many years to come.
Salute to his dad for being an exemplar dad and an example.

I wonder what would have happened if his dad decided not to support his son, not take on three jobs to support his karting career, not to be around?

what would he be doing today?

Transatlantic Slave trade

Bicentury commemoration of the transatlantic slave trade

This year marks 200 years since transatlantic slavery was abolished. It seems to be a quite programme. I suspect that this year’s Black History month is going to feature Slavery quite heavily.

For my part i will be preparing material that features the science and history behind the production of sugar, iron and cotton.

Lewis Hamilton: An inspiration to anyone.

Lewis Hamilton  As I watch Lewis Hamilton win his first grand prix podium winner, I was minded about the things that might be done in the BBAP ( Black Boys Achievement Programme) I would have suggested they take a group to the next F1 race- Silverstone. This is a story that ticks all achievement box: A devoted father, a black boy, achievement history. No rookie driver in the history of F1 has stood on the podium in his first races and certainly not win first place in first few races.

Again I would say take the boys to see this inspiration. Some say Lewis Hamilton will do for F1 what Tiger Woods did for golf; bring in a whole new audience to the sport. certainly the atmosphere around F1 has been absolutely electric since Lewis’ entry to the pinnacle of the sport.
